Access to Burgess Park
To ensure the safety of the local residents, park users, spectators and contractors alike, the event site at Burgess Park will not be accessible to the public during certain periods of time. We have listed the accessibility times below.
Build (27th - 31st August)
The path highlighted in yellow will remain open for public access. As this path falls within our site footprint, a pedestrian barrier will be erected on either side of the path. From 08:00 to 20:00, two security personnel will be present, one at each gate. This setup will remain in place until two hours before the first live event on 1st August.
Live Event (1st, 2nd & 3rd August and 8th & 9th August)
During the live event, the path will be closed two hours before the site opens to event attendees. While the path is closed, non-event-related traffic will be directed to alternative routes, highlighted in Red. Pedestrian traffic from Old Kent Road will be through the car park on Albany Road, and back down towards the park. The car park will be closed during this time.
The path will remain closed until full site clearance has been given, and the route will be re-opened for public access once complete.
Dark days (4th - 8th August):
After site clearance on Sunday, 3rd August, after the event has ceased, the path will reopen and remain open until two hours before the next commercial live event on the 9th August.
Break (11th -15th August):
From Sunday 10th August, all paths will reopen to the public once we have vacated the site.
Security teams are onsite 24/7 over the duration of the build, live and break periods. The wider Burgess Park will remain open.
Noise Management
Any large music event will be audible for residents living nearby. We will however devote significant resources to minimising the impact, both by how we have engineered the sound systems in addition to the close monitoring and supervision of stage levels.
To manage the noise, we are working with acoustic consultants and have designed a Noise Management Plan to minimize the noise impact. We will also monitor noise levels throughout the event, both within the site and at agreed points adjacent to residential properties.
We will have a Community Hotline (020 31374305) which will be live on event dates, in case of any feedback from residents regarding noise levels.
Traffic Management
A detailed Traffic Management Plan has been produced, with a specialised consultancy and external management company. This plan includes the deployment of additional event directional signage and pedestrian route signage; the creation of dedicated pick-up and drop-off (PUDO) locations for taxis and other cars.
Waste Management
A dedicated cleansing team will be in place with the sole responsibility of clearing litter outside the event site in the areas of the park, including roads and pavements where event attendees travel. A separate cleansing team is in place to keep the inside of the event site clean during the festival. Regular checks will be made and a site handover will be completed when the event site is dismantled with Southwark’s Events and Parks officers to ensure they are happy with the cleaning of the park.
